(must be over 12 and pass Pointe readiness)
Pointe is an extension of ballet and is taken is conjunction with ballet classes. Students can earn their Pointe shoes after several prerequisites. All Pointe students must be over the age of 12. They must be taking 2 ballet classes per week (normally their regular Ballet class plus Ballet Technique), and they must have had two consecutive years of ballet instruction. There are also several Pointe readiness tests that must be passed before taking Pointe.
Our Pointe program focuses on building strength from core to ankles, and using that strength to safely achieve and execute Pointe skills. Our Pre-Pointe dancers work at the barre for a significant amount of time before moving to center work to promote safety and prevent injury. Once correct positions and adequate strength are gained at the barre, students move to center work on two feet, and eventually to limited one foot skills. Pointe is hard work, but it is a beautiful dance discipline!
